Consistently Inconsistent

Saturday January 26, 2008

The fishing has been consistently inconsistent—one trip has been very quiet and the next has struck El Dorado—literally with catches of up to 6 spectacular Mahi Mahi. The average size of the Mahi Mahi has been very good—between 20 and 35lb.

Yellowfin Tuna have been thin on the ground but a lot have been caught further south and we are expecting them to move up soon.

On the light tackle front we have had more success casting than trolling. During the warmer months schools of small Blue Fin Trevally and Scad Mackerel come on to the reef tops to hunt Silversides. Casting small metal slugs into feeding schools is fantastic fun on light tackle—lots of strikes and great scraps.

For anglers who have worked hard every trip has seen GTs hooked on big poppers—not all of them have been landed however!
