El Nino – Where has all the rain gone?

Fiji at present is experiencing El Nino. Ask anyone who has traveled to Fiji since November 2009 and the chances are they’ll have experienced hot, sunny, calm conditions…but no or very little rain. The reason for this is El Nino.

El Nino is a shift in ocean currents that provides the South West Pacific with cooler sea temperatures than normal and the East Pacific with warmer sea temperatures than normal.

These shifts in ocean currents have effected our global weather patterns. Europe and the States have experienced freakish amounts of snow….and here in Fiji we’ve had next to no rain. El Nino is set to last for a few more months which is of course great for anyone planning a holiday to Fiji…
