Humpback Whale Sightings

Tuesday July 3, 2007

Some lucky scuba divers had a rare encounter with a Humpback Whale in June. Having just finished diving our new dive site “Edenville”, everyone was buzzing from having just done a great dive. On our return back to Tokoriki we by chance saw the blow from a whale. On closer inspection we saw that it was a Humpback, and spent some time just idling near by… a very memorable experience.

Later on in July we saw more Humpbacks—two on the way out to the Supermarket Shark Dive, two more whilst visitors to Monuriki were doing their tour around the famous island and Will was finishing a Rescue Diver Course off the shore… and finally Fabi got the fright of his life whilst waiting for divers to surface at Saki’s Reef—a huge great splash and gigantic ripple turned out to be the flip of a whales tale! Pods of 12 plus Pilot Whales have also been regularly seen on Sportfishing trips in June and July.
