March 2007: Fishing

Monday March 26, 2007

MarlinHighlight of recent weeks has been the catch of another marlin, this time a Blue of 74kg Unfortunately the fish died during the fight (the hook came out of the mouth and caught in the flank, so the fish came up backwards.) However, it did not go to waste and was distributed amongst the villagers of Yanuya Island.

The weather has not allowed us to get out beyond the barrier as much as we would like, but when we have, quite a few yellowfin and and skippies have been showing, although mostly on the small size.

On light tackle trips we have been catching steadily—lots of scad mackerel, plus Spaniards and the odd GT up to about 14kg. On a recent trip we caught a lovely Rainbow Runner on one of the bait rods (very light tackle). Rainbow Runner fight very hard, are great looking, and are one of the best tasting fish in the sea.
