New Dive Site is 'SHRIMPTASTIC!'

Saturday May 10, 2008

A pinnacle just off Tokoriki Island Resort has yielded a unique opportunity for certified scuba divers. Corallomorphs, the most ancient of all corals, smother this small reef, and glass fish are so thick that you are pushing them out the way for closer inspection of what has become the most fascinating site that we have ever dived…

Armies of Durban Hingebeak Shrimp come and say hello (quite literally) whilst Ghost Shrimps and White Banded Cleaner Shrimp offer a manicure…yes it’s true…if you extend your hand out both species will give you a “clean”.

Jelly Shrimps dance like fairies amongst exotic anemones, whilst Sexy Shrimp sway more seductively wilth their bottoms up!

And if that’s not enough, if you can find the Harlequin Cleaner Shrimps, you may also find a Moray Eel or Octopus visiting them for a clean.

The reef is also home to a new species of Pipe Fish – a close relative of the Seahorse.
