New Year Yellow Fin Tuna Run - Best in Years!

Thursday January 17, 2013

The fishing has been very productive over the late December/January period. Up until Christmas we were catching good numbers of Spanish Mackerel, including fish over the 20kg mark.

The second half of January has seen the best run of Yellow Fin Tuna in years. Initially we got lots of small ones but the average size of fish has increased.

Lucky anglers have been enjoying Sashimi and Tuna steaks from the Yellow Fin and Kokoda—a South Pacific delicacy—from the Spanish Mackerel.

We are at the forefront of promoting catch and release in Fiji and as such we have been successfully releasing a good number of Giant Trevally. This is a species that is poor eating and has a threatened status on Fiji reefs.
