Yanuya Island Village Visit – a ‘must do’ for Tokoriki guests

Wednesday April 3, 2013

In an effort to improve the Village Visit we have been working with the team to ‘change’ the tour into more of a ‘personal and intimate’ experience for guests of Tokoriki. So what’s new?

On arrival all Tokoriki guests are welcomed to Yanuya Island with handmade flower and leaf ‘salu salus’, which have been assembled by the village ladies that morning. This raises some laughter, makes everyone feel that little bit special and leaves no doubt that they are in the South Pacific!

The rest of the tour takes in a kava ceremony, a stroll around the village and of course a visit to the handicraft market. The crafts on sale have improved somewhat with beautiful fresh water pearls being a popular purchase amongst the ladies.

The highlight undoubtedly for many is meeting some of the children who are lucky enough to call this village home. In school term Tokoriki guests are welcomed by the school children with a beautiful song which doesn’t fail to leave a lasting impression and a tear in the eye.
